When to restring your racket.
Replace broken strings before playing again. For intact strings, check wear and changes in control or feel, then agree the next setup with your stringer.
Check the strings
- Have broken strings replaced before playing again.
- Look for deep notches where the strings cross, and heavy fraying.
- Ask yourself whether control or feel has drifted since the last restring.
- Tell your stringer when it was last strung, how often you play and what has changed.
Agree the setup
Ask for the string’s full name, thickness and tension. Synthetic gut is the affordable starting point and multifilament the softer option. Polyester and hybrids are a longer conversation: how they play, and how often they need replacing.
If you like your current setup, write it down. If you want a change, change one thing at a time.
Confirm the quote
- Does it include the string and the work?
- Will you supply a string set, or will the shop?
- When will the racket be ready?
- Are delivery or urgent fees extra?
